Because we’re a team of experienced Mental Health product designers, we believe prevention is better than cure. That’s why we created a closed keyway mechanical lockset that minimises the probability of keyway tampering.
Our mechanical locksets are available with closed keyways. Designed to minimise keyway blocking, they minimise the probability of needing to use the emergency T-bar tool to gain room entry.
Using five spring-loaded forward facing pins, the keyway is automatically closed off when the Lifeline key is removed from the lock. The patented Lifeline key is only available from Safehinge Primera, reducing the risk of illicit online purchase. This ensures only staff can operate locks, improving both security and privacy.
Improves access speeds
With every lock using the same staff-only key, staff know immediately which one to use – making access quicker and less complicated.
Service users say the jangling of keys on the ward reinforces feelings of imprisonment. Our one-key system means fewer keys – reducing anxiety and promoting recovery.
With just one key to carry, the risk of lost or stolen keys is reduced. Plus, the patented Lifeline key is only available from Safehinge Primera, minimising the risk of illicit online purchases and ensuring only staff can operate locks – enhancing security and privacy.
Clinical teams tell us they need a fast, intuitive way to access rooms – especially in stressful situations. That’s why we’ve unified popular locks with a Lifeline – meaning that one staff-only key operates door locks, vision panels, anti-barricade stops, cabinets, and windows.
Safehinge Primera mechanical locksets are available with Lifeline closed keyway systems.
Unifying door components with our range of window handles cuts the number of keys carried and keeps staff in control of window operation.
* Lifeline compatible window handles use an open keyway
Anti-barricade door stops
The closed keyway is compatible with our Movastop retrofit anti-barricade doorstop, as well as Intastop’s removable doorstop*. It also works perfectly with the integrated collapsible anti-barricade doorstop on the Symphony doorset, providing a unified one-key solution for all locks.
*The specifier should check the product’s suitability for their application.
We know it’s important to reduce unauthorised use of vision panels, for example by using a standard square drive key. That’s why Lifeline is compatible with panels from market leaders like Vistamatic and Intastop, for improved privacy and security.
The Trust originally wanted a square drive lockset. But with tampering and barricading an issue, they also wanted a reliable and complete override system so that staff could always gain access.
Our existing 5-way SOS (Staff Override System) didn’t quite fit the bill, as there were concerns about keyway tampering. So we suggested using it in conjunction with our Lifeline closed keyway system.
The proof came in the testing, when Trust staff really put our lockset through its paces. Having dealt with the many issues caused by blocked keyways, they set about trying to jam it with a variety of foreign objects, including toothpaste and a mixture of hair gel and hair spray.
The result? A product that passed with flying colours – and a client who was convinced it met their needs.
Using the one-key access, the same Lifeline key is used for observations and to operate the anti-barricade stop – providing emergency access in just two seconds.
