DUMFRIES AND GALLOWAY ROYAL INFIRMARY

The new Dumfries and Galloway Royal Infirmary opened in late 2017 and is one of the most advanced hospitals in the country, with 344 single-bed rooms. Our clever finger-ejecting guards were used on automatic doors throughout to comply with BS7036 and on all hinged doors in the paediatric ward to keep little fingers safe.

Paediatric unit: Ejecting wandering fingers

Paediatric Unit Door Finger Guards:
Ejecting wandering fingers

With children constantly in the unit – either for treatment or visiting siblings – finger safety was a priority for the designers. They used our surface-mounted finger-ejecting guard because it’s the only safe and durable option for hinged doors in a busy hospital.

  • Its patented system ejects wandering fingers and the robust aluminium body fills the gap
  • Using two fabric rollers with clever geometry – rather than just one with fabric tension – it has almost no impact on door opening forces, so young children can still open doors with ease
  • It’s ideal for high-traffic environments because it doesn’t split like plastic guards, which eventually split and reveal the gap

Automatic doors:
Providing finger protection without straining the door opener mechanism

Automatic doors with a powered opening device must meet a variety of standards, including EN16005 and BS7036 (Part 4), and finger guards should be fitted.  Our Alumini finger guard was chosen because it’s ideal for automatic doors.

  • It puts no additional strain on the door opening mechanism, because it uses clever geometry – rather than fabric tension – to keep fingers out
  • It’s durable and long-lasting – ideal for busy hospital walkways
  • The aluminium body moves out the way as the door opens, so hospital trollies and beds are less likely to damage it
