Every year in the UK 30,000 people trap and injure their fingers in doors.

The majority are accidents.  However, in mental health wards some patients view the dangers with traditional door hinges as a means of self harm.

Safehinge ALU for Mental Health - overview

The Safehinge ALU range for mental health is truly fit for purpose in healthcare buildings providing an all in one solution for full door safety.

Traditional doors are dangerous, the gap created when the door is opening and closing acts as a cutting mechanism and is a potential risk for intentional patient self-harm and accidents involving staff.  The Department for Health recommends in design guideline document,  HTM58, the use of finger protection in healthcare environments.

Up until now health boards have not been able to protect the full door through one solution.  Using Safehinge ALU for Mental Health - a pivot hinge system - the door is allowed to open and close without creating a gap at the hinge side of the door.

A special design feature reduces the potential for the top pivot pin being used as a ligature point.

1 in 20 self harm incidents involve a door.   Safehinge ALU for Mental Health provides:

  • Anti-Ligature

  • Anti-Barricade

  • Anti-Finger Trap
