Finger trappings cost councils thousands
An interesting article by Cara Sulieman of Deadline Press Agency has revealed that compensation payouts from finger trappings in doors cost UK local authorities over £650,000 in the last three years. In some cases, the council's compensation bill exceeded £50,000.
What's more, the figure is rising as compensation claims become more common. Mark Wallace, from the Taxpayer's Alliance, says "It's ridiculous. The compensation culture has gotten so out of hand that some people are happy to claim such large amounts of taxpayer's money.
"Now compensation claims have become so popular councils have a responsibility to be tougher and to take more care of taxpayer's money."
We believe underlines the need for local authorities around the country to take appropriate measures in installing suitable, durable finger protection on their doors.
