Futuristic school uses doors fit for the 21st century
Abergwynfi Community School in the Afan Valley in Port Talbot is no ordinary school. The state of the art school made up of circular classrooms, known as 'pods', that will provide modern up to date teaching facilities to meet the needs of the modern teaching curriculum. The central circular hall forms the core of the building and will be used by the community for after hour activities.
Leader of Council, Derek Vaughan, said, "The new school is
evidence not only of Neath Port Talbot Council's commitment to
regenerating its valley communities but also to ensuring that those
children have the best start in life and the best opportunity to
fulfil their educational potential."
Jonathan Morris, lead architect on this project, explained that
"Neath Port Talbot Council wanted to develop a top quality building
for community and school use and it was important to use products
that are sustainable, innovative and easy to maintain, Safehinge
not only meets these requirements, but looks clean, new and more
considered than the retrofit hinge guards".
Jonathan added "we didn't want to restrict ourselves to one
supplier, the Safehinge kit enabled us to tender the project to
multiple suppliers to ensure best value could be achieved for the
project".
